SEN Teaching Assistant

Are you a patient, resilient and empathetic Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference to children with additional needs? We are recruiting a permanent SEN Teaching Assistant for a well-established specialist provision in Wakefield supporting pupils with autism (ASD) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role
Working under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO, you will support small groups and individuals across the school day. The role includes delivering bespoke interventions, supporting personal care where required, and helping pupils to regulate their emotions and access learning at the right level.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD and SEMH needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions planned by the class teacher or SENCO.
- Use de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies consistently.
- Support personal care, communication and life-skills development.
- Record observations and feed back to the wider team to inform planning.
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN (ASD, SEMH or similar) is essential.
- A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
- A calm, patient and non-judgemental approach.
- Team-Teach training (or willingness to complete it).
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
