1 to 1 and Small Group Tuition Across Liverpool and the North West

Virtual Schools, council SEN and commissioning teams, and schools across Liverpool can contact GAC Education to find a tutor. We look for someone within easy reach of the pupil, then work with you on a plan that fits their needs.

The four kinds of tuition we cover

Looked after and previously looked after children

Who it's for

Children in care, and previously looked after children, supported by a Virtual School

How it works

We plan the tuition with the Virtual School around the child's personal education plan (PEP). You can read how Pupil Premium Plus works on the looked after children page.

Children out of school

Who it's for

Children who are unwell, excluded or waiting for a school place

How it works

Home or online tuition arranged by the council, with a tutor who can easily reach the area (for example Speke, Walton, Childwall). There is more on the children out of school page.

SEND and EHCP tuition

Who it's for

Children with an EHCP or on SEN support, arranged by the council SEN team, the school or parents

How it works

1 to 1 tuition across north and south Liverpool, including Anfield, Wavertree and Woolton, shaped around the child's needs. There is more on the SEND tuition page.

School catch up and exam preparation

Who it's for

Pupils working towards KS2 SATs, GCSEs or resits

How it works

Tuition your school pays for, for one pupil or a small group, for example a GCSE group in the north of the city or primary catch up in the south. There is more on the catch up and exams page.

A tutor close to home, across the city

Liverpool is a big city, so we look for a tutor close to the pupil's part of it.

  • North of the centre: Anfield, Everton, Walton, Kirkdale, Fazakerley, Norris Green, Croxteth and West Derby.
  • South of the centre: Aigburth, Allerton, Mossley Hill, Garston, Speke, Woolton and Childwall.
  • Centre: Toxteth, Kensington, Wavertree and Old Swan.

How to find a tutor

Call 0151 404 9965 or use the contact form. It helps if you can tell us:

  1. The part of the city, and that the council is Liverpool City Council.
  2. Which kind of tuition it is: a child in care, a child out of school, SEND or EHCP, or school catch up and exams.
  3. The pupil's year group, the subjects and what you would like the tuition to achieve.
  4. Who is paying for it: the Virtual School, the council SEN team or the school.

We will then talk it through with you and agree a plan that suits the pupil.

Every tutor goes through our safer recruitment checks before they meet a pupil. That includes an enhanced DBS with a children's barred list check and references, in line with Keeping children safe in education 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Which council is the local council for Liverpool tuition?

Liverpool City Council. A child looked after by another council stays with that council's Virtual School, even if they live or go to school in Liverpool. For supply staff, see the Liverpool location page.

Do you cover north and south Liverpool?

Yes. We cover north Liverpool, including Anfield, Walton, Kirkdale and West Derby, the south, including Aigburth, Speke, Woolton and Childwall, and the centre, including Toxteth and Wavertree. Tell us the area and we will look for a tutor nearby.
