SEN Teaching Assistant for Speech and Language Needs in Wakefield
Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Have you ever watched a child who cannot get their words out be mistaken for not trying? Primary schools across the Wakefield district need SEN Teaching Assistants who understand communication needs.
About the Role
Speech, language and communication needs can hide behind frustration, silence or behaviour. You will help teachers see what is really going on. Much of your time will go on programmes set by speech and language therapists, delivered one to one or in small groups, then supporting the same pupils back in class. You will use visuals, signing and modelled language, run vocabulary and listening groups, and support social interaction at play and lunchtimes. Progress is recorded against EHCP and SEN support targets. Bookings are long term in schools including Ossett, Horbury, Normanton and Sandal. Makaton or Colourful Semantics experience will help you settle in quickly.
