Do you see the young person behind the behaviour, even on the days when they are hardest to reach? GAC Education is recruiting Behaviour Support Workers for primary and secondary schools, SEMH settings and alternative provision across Wakefield and the wider district.
About the Role
You will work with children and young people whose behaviour is getting in the way of their learning, often because of something they find hard to put into words. That might mean one to one support for a pupil at risk of exclusion, working with a small group in an inclusion room, or helping a young person manage the move back into lessons. You will build steady, honest relationships, follow behaviour support plans closely and help pupils learn to recognise and manage their own emotions. When things escalate, you will stay calm and use the calming strategies the setting has agreed. Keeping clear records and talking regularly with teachers, pastoral staff and SENCOs means everyone supporting the young person is working the same way. Backgrounds in youth work, care, sport, mentoring or SEMH support all transfer well. Email your CV to office@gac.education with "Behaviour Support Worker, Wakefield" in the subject line, or call our Yorkshire desk on 0113 460 1938 for an informal chat first.
